I’d like to share some insights and expand on the topic of using multiple agents in your job search. It’s crucial to understand that relying on multiple agents can not only be considered unprofessional, but also counterproductive. This approach can have detrimental effects on your credibility and hinder the growth of your career before it even takes off. While you might believe that engaging multiple agents will increase your chances of success, the reality is quite the opposite.

When teams discover your profiles with multiple agents, it often leads to confusion and uncertainty. They won’t know which agent to contact, and as a result, they are likely to move on without considering you for future opportunities. If a team even thinks that there could be a conflict between agents over who collects the commission, they will move on quickly. Teams hate conflicts over money. Moreover, if you have already signed with an agent, it is highly disrespectful to have other agents actively searching for you. Agents invest incredible amounts of time and effort in their clients, and having multiple agents searching for you undermines their dedication.

If you feel that your current agent isn’t meeting your expectations, it’s advisable to properly end that contract before signing with another one who aligns better with your goals. However, if you are not signed with an agent but multiple agents are “helping” you, take a moment to reflect. Would you be motivated to work hard for someone who isn’t exclusively signed with you but potentially has others doing the same job? It’s essential to consider the dynamics at play and the level of commitment that an agent can offer.

If an agent is willing “help” you but hesitates to sign you officially, it might indicate that they don’t hold a high opinion of you as an athlete. That may be a hard pill to swallow, but there are so many players out there. It’s a buyers market, which means agents can be very selective in their choices of players.

If you haven’t yet secured an agent, it’s essential to convince one to represent you. A well-connected and dedicated agent can greatly impact your career trajectory. If you’re seeking guidance or assistance to secure the right agent, I’m here to help.
