That was my honest thought as 2025 started coming to an end.
Not because nothing happened. But because the work I do in overseas basketball doesn’t always show up publicly. There’s no scoreboard for the conversations that stop players from getting scammed. No headline for the rookie who didn’t panic and sign the wrong deal. No stat line for the veteran who asked the right question at the right time.
I prefer it that way because that’s where the real work happens.
The Quiet Reality of 2025
Over the course of this year, I had 146 free consultations with players.
That number matters to me because it means 146 players trusted me enough to ask real questions before making real decisions.
I also had 19 paid consultations, but I don’t measure value by that number. I measure it by what came out of those conversations: clarity, direction, and smarter career moves.
I ran one Master Class with 14 players, where we really discussed all facets of overseas hoops. I also conducted tw0 Rookie Integration programs, one for an agent and one for a professional team, helping young players adjust before the season adjusted them.
And then there’s the part no one sees.
The countless DMs.
The late night questions.
The “does this sound right to you?” or, “is this contract real?” messages.
I helped countless players avoided sure scams this year. Others avoided contracts that would have put them in bad situations long-term.
That doesn’t show up on Instagram…but it changes careers.
What SJM Consulting Is Really About
Nothing I do is about chasing money. SJM Consulting exists to educate players, protect them, and help them grow in an overseas basketball world that often doesn’t explain itself.
I’ve also built new relationships this year. With agents. With teams. With people who care about doing things the right way. Those connections matter because they don’t just help SJM Consulting grow. They will help players move smarter in the future.
Ending the Year the Right Way
2025 wasn’t about hype. It was about foundations.
And if this year proved anything to me, it’s that overseas basketball doesn’t need more noise. It needs more honest guidance.
If you’re a player who wants to understand the game behind the game, If you want clarity instead of confusion, If you want to stop guessing and start positioning, you know where to find me.
